Lesley Blanch, 1904-2007, was at heart a nomad. Her lifelong passion was for Russia and the Middle East. An inspiration to generations of writers, readers and travellers, she was, in the words of Philip Mansel, "not a school, a trend, or a fashion, but a true original." Her books include The Sabres of Paradise, Pierre Loti and timeless classic, The Wilder Shores of Love. At the time of her death she was writing the sequel to her acclaimed autobiography Journey Into the Mind's Eye. Her Literary Executor is Georgia de Chamberet. The Japanese edition of the late Gael Elton Mayo's compulsively readable autobiography, The Mad Mosaic, was published in September 2007 by PHP Institute Inc., Kyoto. Set up by Panasonic to help young people become successful business entrepreneurs, PHP has successfully published Isabel Allende and David Beckham: My World. Gael's second volume of memoirs, Living with Beelzebub, was published by Sakuhinsha in 2003. Her translator is Koichiro Mochida who is also a writer, Japanese tanka poet and part-time lecturer in a graduate school.

The A to Z of Literary Translation is being posted in instalments on the words without borders blog as part of the build up to the PEN World Voices Festival in New York (28 April to 4 May, 2008).

Georgia de Chamberet's A to Z of Literary Translation is being circulated, along with 'statements' by translators, at the masters class in translation studies which Alane Mason (W.W. Norton) and Dedi Felman (Simon & Schuster) are team teaching in March 2008 at Columbia University in the City of New York.

Jamika Ajalon's debut solo album 'Helium Balloon Illusions' was launched at La Maroquinerie, Paris in March. Her lyrical and vocal collaboration with French dub group Zenzile is influenced by roots dub poetry and afro-beat music. Jamika has compiled her first collection of poetry, Genetically Modified Soul.
